The Queen Anne’s County Commissioners voted unanimously, March 24, on Paul Comfort’s motion to eliminate the semi-annual property tax payment service fee.
In the past the county charged a fee to homeowners who chose to pay their property tax in semi-annually to help the county make up for the lost interest and administrative costs.
“The Commissioners agreed to eliminate this fee and allow our taxpayers this benefit with no additional cost,” said Comfort. “This represents another action from this commission to reduce fees for our citizens. One of our first actions in office was to eliminate the Beach Parking Permit Fee.”
The county saved money by mailing out tax bills just once each year. Those who wish to make one payment may do so. Those who wish to take advantage of the semi-annual payment option, must save the two-payment portion of the tax bill and mail the first half in by September 30, and the second half by December 31.
