[ARCHIVED] Winter Storm Forecast for Queen Anne's County

Copy of Copy of A friendly reminder (5)

A Winter Storm Warning is in place for this weekend across Queen Anne’s County for the threat of snow and ice accumulations.

Snow is ongoing across Queen Anne’s County and will continue through daybreak before transitioning to a wintry mix. Road conditions are quickly deteriorating due to heavier bands of snow moving into the area.
What Changed?
Reduction of the upper end of snowfall amounts due to increased confidence in mixing with sleet and freezing rain later this morning.
⌚Timeline?
Snow will continue, heavy at times, through daybreak before mixing with sleet during the mid-to-late morning hours. Sleet may mix with or transition to freezing rain this afternoon before tapering off tonight. Even if temperatures reach freezing at the surface, temperatures will quickly fall below freezing Sunday night. This means any snow, sleet, and/or ice will remain on roadways, powerlines, and trees. Dangerously cold conditions are expected to persist through this week, prolonging impacts.
📏 How Much?
❄️ Total snow/sleet accumulations of 6-8 inches by mid-morning
🧊 Ice accumulations of 0.1-0.2 inches
Impacts:
🚗 Near-impossible travel conditions; non-essential travel should be avoided. Due to subfreezing temperatures, roadway impacts will likely linger through this week.
🔦 Possible power outages due to a combination of snow and ice accumulations and breezy conditions on Monday.
🥶 Extreme cold and subzero wind chills, increasing the risk for frostbite and hypothermia on exposed skin through this week.
🛠️ Increased risk for frozen pipes due to prolonged subfreezing temperatures.
Please stay safe, stay warm, and continue to monitor the Queen Anne’s County website and social media pages for updates, protective actions, and emergency information.
