Queen Anne’s County Commissioner Jack N. Wilson, Jr. Will Serve as President of the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo)

Queen Anne’s County is proud to announce that County Commissioner Jack N. Wilson, Jr. will serve as the new President of the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) for 2024/25. Commissioner Wilson was sworn in during the MACo Winter Conference, where he addressed nearly 900 government leaders, legislators, and partners gathered to discuss the upcoming legislative session and the fiscal and policy challenges facing Maryland in the year ahead.

"I am truly honored to step into the role of MACo President," said Commissioner Wilson. "This opportunity is a privilege, and I am eager to build upon the strong tradition of collaboration and leadership that MACo embodies. As leaders, it’s essential that we anticipate what lies ahead, adapt to changing circumstances, and achieve meaningful results that benefit every resident in our counties. Whether it’s leveraging new technologies, streamlining processes, or finding innovative ways to balance our budgets, our collective efforts will set the tone for the year to come."

Wilson continued, "This year, I am especially looking forward to strengthening collaborations among counties of all sizes—whether rural or urban, large or small, and across all political perspectives. MACo provides us with a unique platform to unite, work alongside our partners at the federal, state, and local levels, and focus on our shared goal of serving the people of Maryland. At the end of the day, we are all committed to making our communities thrive."

Commissioner Wilson has been serving as a Queen Anne’s County Commissioner since his initial appointment by Governor Larry Hogan on June 23, 2015, filling the remainder of a four-year term. He was subsequently elected in 2018 and re-elected in November 2022, currently representing District 1. Throughout his tenure, he has been a strong advocate for expanding trade programs in local schools and enhancing broadband access across Queen Anne’s County.

Born in Baltimore and raised in Arnold, MD, Jack Wilson has been a resident of Queen Anne’s County since 1992. He graduated from Severna Park High School in 1984 and later completed the Steamfitters Local 438 Apprenticeship Program. With a career spanning over three decades in the trades, Wilson brings a wealth of hands-on experience to his public service role. His passion for community engagement and local government drives his commitment to making a positive impact in Queen Anne’s County and beyond.

MACo’s Winter Conference, themed “Anticipate, Adapt, Achieve: Thriving Through Turbulent Times,” serves as a critical lead-in to Maryland’s General Assembly Session. The conference provides a platform for local government leaders to discuss strategies for addressing fiscal challenges, policy changes, and workforce issues in 2025 and beyond.

Queen Anne’s County congratulates Commissioner Jack Wilson on this prestigious new role and looks forward to the collaborative efforts he will lead in the year ahead.
