On the morning of Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at approximately 7:45 AM, Queen Anne's County Animal Control received a call about a cat stuck in a tree. Upon arrival, Animal Control Officers A. McKenzie and K. Scharch found a domestic cat stranded about 20 feet high.
Typically, Animal Control Officers use non-invasive methods to encourage cats to come down from trees on their own. However, this case was different. The officers quickly noticed that the cat was in significant distress and required immediate intervention. Understanding the potential risks to the cat, they promptly requested assistance from the Kent Island Fire Department.
The response from the fire department was exceptional. The crew extended a ladder and safely rescued the distressed cat from the tree. The cat, named Bruno, was subsequently reunited with its owner.
Today, a follow-up confirms that Bruno is doing well at home, and his owner is deeply grateful for the swift and effective rescue.
While rescues of this nature are not typical, the Queen Anne's County Department of Emergency Services extends its heartfelt thanks to the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department for their invaluable assistance. The successful rescue underscores the importance of strong partnerships with our local volunteer fire departments.
Thank you for your continued dedication and service to our community.
