Historic Stevensville Arts & Entertainment District Unveils Vibrant Road Mural on Love Point Road, Stevensville

The Historic Stevensville Arts & Entertainment District, in collaboration with Queen Anne's County, is thrilled to announce the completion of a vibrant road mural on Love Point Road in downtown Stevensville. With an increase in pedestrian traffic in the area and the community’s concern for safety the organizations knew they needed a creative solution. This project, made possible through a Maryland DHCD Community Safety Works Grant of $50,000, aims to enhance pedestrian road safety while celebrating the cultural identity and heritage of the community.

A portion of the grant was used to improve pedestrian safety at the intersection. The mural, located on the right-hand side of Love Point Road from the stop sign at the corner of Main Street and Love Point Road to the stop sign at the corner of East Main and Love Point Road, serves as a captivating addition to downtown Stevensville. Designed by muralist Comacell Brown Jr., also known as Cell Spitfire, the artwork pays homage to the Historic Stevensville Arts & Entertainment District's logo, incorporating elements of Stevensville's history, culture, and maritime roots.

The mural, painted using Heavy Shield-Color Top Concrete stain paint with Shark Grib additive (for slip resistance), features vibrant strokes of colors in the district logo and icons representing the areas roots, the bold lettering at the stop sign say “STOP”, and enjoy historic Stevensville” uniting safety with art. Touch-ups will be conducted annually to ensure the longevity of the artwork.

The Love Point Road mural project represents a collaborative effort between Eye of Fire Designs, Cell Spitfire, the Historic Stevensville Arts & Entertainment District, supported by the Queen Anne's County Tourism Office, Maryland State Arts Council, and Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. It serves as a testament to the power of art in enhancing pedestrian road safety and community identity.
