Queen Anne’s County Government recently hosted the Maryland Secretary of Housing and Community Development, Jake Day, for a visit. The day was marked by a series of productive engagements aimed at enhancing community development and addressing housing needs within the county.

His visit underscores the importance of collaboration between state, local and private entities in addressing critical housing needs in our county. Secretary Day, along with Queen Anne’s County Commissioners and local leaders, embarked on a tour across various sites of significance, showcasing the collaborative efforts made and opportunities for future partnerships in advancing community welfare.
Highlights of the visit included:
- Engagement at Old Sudlersville Middle School Project and Community Laundromat: Secretary Day witnessed firsthand the ongoing redevelopment efforts in Sudlersville. The Old Sudlersville Middle School is being converted for adaptive re-use and redevelopment, including a community laundromat with the help of the Community Development Block Grant and Community Legacy Grant.
- Visit to FoxxTown Senior Housing: Secretary Day stopped by FoxxTown Senior Housing, to see recent improvements that utilized Community Block Development Grant funding. Government leadership also discussed future needs after the recent partnership between the QAC Housing Authority and Queen Anne’s County Government.
- Exploration of Centreville Main Street: The group explored downtown Centreville, which is part of the Main Street Maryland Program. Funding from Community Legacy Program helped fund a façade improvement program which to date has been dispersed to 19 properties and business owners to make improvements to their buildings.
- Support for Local Enterprises: Secretary Day visited Onyx Beauty Supply and Barbershop, a Project Restore Recipient. Project Restore helps turn vacant storefronts into viable business space.
- Tour of The Promenade at Red Apple Town Center: The visit to The Promenade underscored the significance of county and private partnerships to provide affordable housing to residents.
The collaborative efforts showcased during Secretary Day's visit reflect a shared commitment to fostering inclusive growth and enhancing the quality of life for all residents of Queen Anne’s County.
