Queen Anne’s County Recognized for 24 Consecutive Years of Financial Reporting Excellence

Queen Anne’s County announces its continued distinction for excellence in financial reporting, marking 24 consecutive years of recognition. The Department of Budget and Finance recently submitted the comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022, to the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This annual report underwent rigorous evaluation by an impartial panel and was honored with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

Attainment of this award represents the success in governmental accounting and financial reporting and the County's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of transparency and accuracy. The 2022 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report can be accessed here https://www.qac.org/DocumentCenter/View/17777/Fiscal-Year-2022-ACFR-PDF .

Jim Moran, County Commissioner, expressed, “We hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of transparency and accuracy in financial reporting. Queen Anne’s County's continued commitment to excellence ensures that our citizens have a clear understanding of how their hard-earned tax dollars are utilized, fostering trust and responsible governance.”

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) established the Certificate of Achievement (COA) program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments in surpassing the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles. This initiative aims to aid governments in preparing annual comprehensive financial reports that embody the principles of transparency and full disclosure, and to recognize outstanding achievements in this pursuit. It's important to note that the program does not assess the financial health of participating governments but rather ensures that the users of their financial statements have the necessary information to make these assessments themselves.
