Down Runner Stops by Department of Emergency Services to Thank First Responders

During the recent 2023 Bay Bridge Run, an unexpected turn of events saw a runner collapse mere moments before reaching the finish line. Quick action from on-site emergency crews became the saving grace as they swiftly responded to the scene. Employing CPR techniques and Advanced Cardiac Life Support, the team successfully revived the fallen runner, achieving what medical professionals term a "return of spontaneous circulation" (ROSC), signifying the restoration of blood pressure and pulse rate.

The individual in distress was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center, showing promising signs of consciousness recovery upon arrival, marking a remarkable turnaround from the dire situation.

In a heartwarming gesture of gratitude, Glen and Beth Camara, the individuals at the center of this dramatic incident, recently paid a visit to the headquarters of the Department of Emergency Services (DES) to express their appreciation to the dedicated personnel who responded to the call for help. Glen, demonstrating incredible resilience and a strong spirit, expressed his eagerness to continue his recovery journey, setting his sights on participating in the Bay Bridge Race once more next year.

Reflecting on this remarkable episode, DES officials conveyed their heartfelt thanks to Glen and Beth for taking time to meet with responders, allowing for the sharing of this incredible success story. Their gesture of gratitude serves as a testament to the collaboration and commitment of emergency responders in ensuring the well-being of all participants.

The Bay Bridge Run is a unique event where participants have the chance to run or walk across the majestic Chesapeake Bay Bridge which is typically closed to pedestrians. This year’s race was held on November 12. To find out more about the event, visit www.thebaybridgerun.com, to learn about the Department of Emergency Services, visit www.qacdes.org
