Shining a Spotlight on Good Character

Queen Anne's County Launches Character Counts! Commissioner's Spotlight

Queen Anne's County is proud to announce the launch of the Character Counts! Commissioner's Spotlight program, a community initiative aimed at recognizing businesses, organizations, and individuals who exemplify outstanding character traits. Through this program, the county seeks to showcase the positive contributions being made by its residents and promote a culture of integrity, responsibility, trustworthiness, citizenship, caring, fairness, and respect.

"We know good things are happening all over the county, and we want to shine a spotlight on them," said County Commissioner Chris Corchiarino. "The Character Counts! Commissioner's Spotlight program provides an opportunity for the community to nominate those individuals and entities that go above and beyond in demonstrating good character. It's a chance to celebrate the values that make our county a better place to live, work, and thrive."

Each month, the Character Counts! Commissioner's Spotlight program will focus on a different pillar of character, allowing residents to nominate candidates who embody specific virtues. The schedule for the coming months is as follows:

  • September - Responsibility
  • October - Trustworthiness
  • November - Citizenship
  • December - Caring
  • January - Fairness
  • February - Respect
  • March - Responsibility
  • April - Trustworthiness
  • May - Caring
  • June - Fairness
  • July - Citizenship
  • August – Respect

To make a nomination, community members can visit the official Character Counts! Commissioner's Spotlight website at https://www.peopleofcharacter.org/commissioner-s-spotlight-nomination. Alternatively, nominations can be submitted via email to Melinda Ray at mray@qac.org.

Selected nominees will be recognized at future Queen Anne's County Commissioner meeting, held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 PM. The meetings take place at 107 North Liberty Street in Centreville and are open to the public. For those unable to attend in person, the meetings are livestreamed on the county's website at www.qac.org/live, as well as on QACTV Facebook and YouTube. Additionally, Breezeline cable channel 7 (or in HD 507) broadcasts the meetings.

The Character Counts! Commissioner's Spotlight program serves as a platform to acknowledge and honor those individuals and organizations that embody the values that Queen Anne's County holds dear. By highlighting their exemplary character, the county aims to inspire others to follow suit and contribute positively to the community.
