County departments, outside agencies, and the county finance department have all been working closely with our County Administrator and County Commissioners to come up with a proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2022 which starts on July 1, 2021. The next step in our budget process is to hear from our residents before the final adoption of the budget in June.

This year’s proposed budget was accomplished without any tax increases, extending this flat rate for almost 10 years. Even without increasing taxes the county continues to provide excellent services, highly rated school system and maintain our triple AAA bond rating.

The proposed budget assumes no change to the real property tax rate $0.8471 per $100 of taxable assessed value, which puts Queen Anne’s County the fourth lowest of the 24 counties in Maryland.

Queen Anne’s County continues to retain one of the highest levels of reserves of any county in Maryland, protecting against recession or future unanticipated difficulties, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some of the projects included in the proposed Capital budget include:

  • $6.5 million for Board of Education Projects
  • $1.7 million for the Kent Island Library Expansion
  • $2.6 million for Parks projects including Terrapin Nature Preserve ranger station and bathroom, athletic field lighting and playground equipment.
  • $0.5 million for YMCA
  • $4.3 million for the Detention Center renovation
  • $3.3 million for Southern Kent Island sewer project
  • $0.5 million for 911 Center upgrades

All our public hearings will be broadcasted live on QACTV You Tube, QACTV Facebook and Atlantic Broadband Channel 7 or 507.
