[ARCHIVED] State Highway Administration to Resurface Centreville 213 in June

sha logo jpg

The Maryland State Highway Administration will resurface MD 213 through Centreville beginning in early June. This includes all of Liberty and Commerce streets between the two bridges that recently were replaced. Essentially, we’ll be going from one end of town to the other.

Right now the plan is to start with some ADA/sidewalk improvements in mid-May at various locations. Following this work, we’ll begin milling and paving MD 213. This will be daytime work, although it’s difficult to pinpoint exact hours right now since our schedule may need to account for the lifting of pandemic-related restrictions. While we all want this paving done, we also want to be sensitive to local businesses that may be reopening.

The best way to move this project along quickly and minimize business and residential impacts is good communication regarding on-street parking. SHA may use door hangers/windshield flyers as appropriate and we’ll work with the town to convey expected work locations/days. We anticipate milling (removing the old surface) all of Liberty and Commerce streets first, then following with the paving. Once all the paving is done we’ll come back through again to do the permanent striping and pavement markings.

With good weather and communication the resurfacing should take about two weeks. The permanent striping will depend on subcontractor availability but we don’t foresee this having a major impact - the big concern with this work is making sure vehicles are far enough away from the line striping to avoid overspray.

Please note that when the paving is underway it may take a few hours for the new asphalt to cool enough to drive or walk across.

Portable message boards will be placed along MD 213 advertising this work. As always, feel free to contact me anytime with questions.
