Queen Anne’s County Identified as a Hot Spot, What it means.

The inclusion of Queen Anne’s County in Governor Hogan’s list of “hot spot” areas does not mean a surge of positive COVID-19 cases above and beyond the levels on which we are tracking in the local Department of Health and the county’s Emergency Operations Center.

Queen Anne’s County positive cases count has remained relatively flat. As of today, April 8, we have 17 positive cases.

Being included in the designation as a “hot spot” will leverage additional federal resources and funding consistent with designations already in place in our county. Under the CDC’s Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI), launched in 2004, Queen Anne’s County continues to receive additional federal funding for all-hazards medical countermeasure distribution and dispensing planning and preparedness.

Queen Anne’s county has long been part of the Baltimore Washington Metropolitan area which is a combined statistical area consisting of the overlapping labor market region of the cities of Washington D.C. and Baltimore. We are part of the Baltimore metropolitan area not just based on geographical proximity, but also in light of the many residents that work in the western locations of the metropolitan area.

As the “Gateway to the Eastern Shore”, Queen Anne’s County has been utilized in the past by federal and state agencies as a staging area for resources during major incidents.
