The next leg of the Cross County Connector Trail (CCCT) is moving from the planning to the construction phase and could be completed in a year.

The Queen Anne’s County Commissioners voted unanimously October 23, to accept the low bidder and move forward with the contract.

Todd Mohn, Director of the Department of Public Works, said, “They should be able to start in December and they have one year to complete the project.”

Corman Kokosing Company, of Baltimore, won the job with the lowest bid in the amount of $3,535,000.

“The low bid is well within the engineer’s estimate of $4,660,642.98,” said County Engineer Shane Moore. “As the CCCT is a Federal Aid project on an 80/20 proportion cost sharing basis the construction costs breakdown as follows; $2,828,000 (Federal) and $707,000 (County). Currently the county has $1,329,155 in remaining funds for construction and inspection.”

The connector trail picks up where the Cross Island Trail leaves off near the intersection of Piney Narrows Road and Maryland Route 18 in Grasonville and consists of extending the existing Cross Island Trail approximately 1.2 miles easterly to Long Point Park with a ten-foot wide trail consisting of 4,323 linear feet of elevated boardwalk and 1,978 feet of paved trail. All proposed work will be completed within the existing right-of-way.
