The brand new Chesterwye House in Stevensville opened its doors Monday to four roommates - David, Anthony, PJ and Mike, who along with their caretakers will make a home at 325 State Street. The following day, the Chesterwye House invited those who made this project possible to a ribbon cutting ceremony and a tour of the house.
The Chesterwye House is a fully ADA compliant home with four bedrooms and three baths which are made all the more useful with a tracking system in the ceiling that helps caretakers move wheelchair-bound residents from bed to bath to chair.
“Yesterday this was a house, then the four men moved in and it is starting to become a home,” said Debra Langseth, the director of Chesterwye.
Event speakers also included QAC Commissioner Mark Anderson, Chesterwye Board President Wheeler Baker, Cindy Stone of DHCD which provided the grant funds for the house, Charlotte Davis of the Rural Maryland Council which paid for the ceiling tracking system, Delegate Steven Arentz who oversaw the project as both a county commissioner and the county’s delegate, and Secretary of Maryland Department of Disabilities Carol Beatty.
