Library Architects Reveal Schematic Drawings Jan. 25th
STEVENSVILLE – Manns Woodward Studios will host a second community meeting for the Kent Island Library renovation and expansion project on Thursday, January 25 at 6:30pm at the Kent Island Branch of Queen Anne’s County Library, 200 Library Circle, Stevensville, MD.
Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend in order to preview the first schematic drawings by the architects. The drawings will provide community members with an initial look at how space is allocated for the three different expansion options of 8,800, 12,200, and 15,600 square feet. At this meeting, residents will have the opportunity to offer feedback about space priorities to ensure the plan will meet the community’s future needs for library programs and services.
Following this community meeting, drawings will be further refined prior to the architects’ presentation to the county commissioners, tentatively scheduled for February 13.
“The team at Manns Woodward studio have received input from the community, library board and staff in order to develop these plans which delineate how much space will be allocated for each new component so an ideal square footage for the expansion can be determined,” said library director, John Walden.

The library was awarded a State Capital Improvement grant of $325,000 that was matched by $325,000 from the county for the program and design portion of the renovation and expansion project. The county commissioners must endorse one of the three options so an RFP can be developed for the final design development for the project.
Proposed improvements include an expanded children’s area with a family restroom, additional meeting spaces, small tutorial rooms, a dedicated library activity room, computer/technology area, seating, general shelving and library space, additional restrooms, security system, storage, additional furniture and shelving, staff work spaces, acoustical treatments and all related mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades.
