GRASONVILLE – It’s something to behold when scores of both professionals and volunteers come together for one day, in one place, to help at-risk families in our community on Make a Difference Day.
This year’s Queen Anne’s County Make a Difference Day event will be held Saturday, November 5 at Grasonville Elementary school from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Food will be provided. Anyone who would like to arrange for transportation, please contact Annette DiMagio at Annettedi99@gmailcom.
Candice Darling, who retired from the county’s Department of Community Services, continues to be involved in organizing this day that brings services to those who most need them along with Judy Corchiarino, Community Advocate, Jone Taylor, Dept. of Social Services and a host of volunteers.
"Chesapeake Helps was awarded a grant and gave the Make A Difference Day event funding for help with purchasing the goods and services for the Mobile Dental Van - we have reserved two for this year, and have two local dentists, Dr. Soistman, and Dr. Pochron of Chesapeake Dental who have volunteered their time,” said Darling. “In addition this money will be used to purchase Food Lion gift cards, and personal care items which will be given out to our guests during the event.
Dr. James Chamberlain, and Dr. Daniel Konick of Maryland Primary Care will be on hand to answer questions and provide information, said Darling.” As last year we will have hearing and sight screenings, flu shots, and free haircuts.”
“We will be well represented by the QAC Departments of Health and Social Services as well as many community and faith based organizations such as Haven Ministries,” she said. Other services offered are veterans services and benefits, and employment.
“To better serve you, please bring all personal identification, birth certificates, social security cards, etc. that could be needed to gain access to much needed services,” Darling said. Each participant and their families will work with a volunteer guide, who will help them find the services they need.
There will be two volunteer training opportunities for those who are interested in helping our guests navigate the vendors on the day of the event: Thursday, October 20 from 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Department of Social Services at 125 Comet Drive, Centreville and another on Tuesday, October 25 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 pm at the Kramer Center, 104 Powell Street, Centreville, walk-ins are welcome
