Seeking Public Comment on Pedestrian/Bicycle Overpass Feasibility Study
Comments accepted through November 12, 2025
Queen Anne’s County is inviting residents, trail users, businesses, and community partners to provide feedback on two potential options for a safe, accessible pedestrian/bicycle crossing over US 50/301 that would connect the Cross Island Trail and the South Island Trail. Public comment will be accepted through November 12, 2025.
The Feasibility Study evaluates ways to link our two signature trail systems while enhancing safety and connectivity for people who walk, bike, and roll.
We held a public meeting on October 23 to present two options the county will consider. If you missed the meeting or would like to take a second look at the information presented, visit https://qac.org/1817/Pedestrian-Bike-Crossing-of-US-50301
This project aims to provide a safe pedestrian/bicycle crossing of US 50/301 to connect the Cross Island Trail with the South Island Trail.
At the beginning of the project, we looked at four crossing locations. Through the study two options were selected to move forward.
The first option (Option 1) is located from Pier One Road to Terrapin Nature Park. This option is a direct connection from the South Island Trail into Terrapin Nature Park, then to the Cross Island Trail via the existing park network. Option 1 improves access to the Chesapeake Bay, Chesapeake Bay Beach Club, nearby residential areas, and the Chesapeake Bay Business Park.
The second option (Option 4) connects just west of Cox Creek to Stevensville Middle School. Option 4 connects the South Island and Cross Island Trails through Stevensville with direct links to the Thompson Creek Rd shared-use path.
This option improves access to the Queen Anne’s County Library, Stevensville Middle School, Kent Island Elementary School, and Thompson Creek Shopping Center.
