County Administrator Todd Mohn and County Commissioners Patrick McLaughlin and Jim Moran joined YMCA of the Chesapeake leaders and excited summer camp attendees to celebrate the grand opening of the new outdoor pool at the Queen Anne’s County Family YMCA and Active Aging Center

Campers assisted in the ceremony and proudly showed off their swim test wristbands before being the first kids to try out the new slide, although YMCA CEO Robbie Gill admitted a few adults may have gotten in some early test runs.

This project is part of a longstanding partnership between Queen Anne’s County and the YMCA of the Chesapeake. Planning began in 2009, and the facility officially opened in October 2023. The 70,000-square-foot center includes a wellness center, indoor and outdoor pools, community and business development spaces, and dedicated facilities for the Active Aging Center, which offers free programs and services for residents 55 and older.
The facility serves over 10,000 members and employs more than 100 staff, with operating and maintenance costs covered by the YMCA. County expenses are limited to the Active Aging Center, funded through a mix of federal, state, and local resources.
