Queen Anne’s County Amateur Radio Club Donates Radios to Local Schools to Support Emergency Preparedness Education
The Queen Anne’s County Amateur Radio Club (QAARC) recently donated handheld Family Radio Service (FRS) radios and tabletop weather radios to Homeland Security classes at Kent Island High School and Queen Anne’s County High School, as well as an Enrichment, Extension, and Intervention (EEI) class at Stevensville Middle School.
These classes are part of a broader initiative offering the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program to students, in partnership with Queen Anne’s County Department of Emergency Services (QAC DES). The donated radios will be used to help students become familiar with radio communications, a vital component of public safety and emergency response training.
The donation was made possible through a grant awarded to QAARC by the Amateur Radio Relay League Foundation (ARRL), which aims to promote knowledge and interest in amateur (HAM) radio among young people.
QAARC invites the public to learn more about amateur radio by visiting their website at www.QAARC.org, attending a monthly meeting at the Centreville Library, visiting their booth at the Queen Anne’s County Fair, or stopping by their annual Field Day exercise on June 28–29 at Tuckahoe State Park.
