Kent Island Tar and Chip Resurfacing Starts September 8th

Queen Anne’s County Public Works, Roads Division announces the 2020 Tar and Chip Resurfacing Program. The project will start September 8th and last for approximately two weeks depending on the weather. Work will be done during the week from 6:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. and will require some lane closures. This project is for the Kent Island area.

The tar and chip process includes a layer of asphalt emulsion followed by a layer of chip stone which is then compacted. Tar and chip is an effective resurfacing method for roads that are less traveled and have a slower speed limit. Drivers should anticipate a few loose stones for a week or so following the application process and should drive accordingly.

To promote the safest conditions for our employees, contractors and residents; we encourage all drivers to follow the signs for detours and closures and to be cautious when traveling in the construction zones. The following roads will be worked on, starting in the Love Point area:

Old Love Point Road

Love Point Avenue

Baltimore Avenue

Pier Avenue

Allegany Road

Claiborne Road

Howard Road / Penny Lane

Dorchester Road

Kent Road

Queen Anne Road
