A depiction of various new programs at the YMCA

The Queen Anne's County Commissioners received an update at their recent meeting that highlighted the continued growth and community impact of the Queen Anne's County Family YMCA as well as its partnership with the County and the Active Aging Center.

The presentation was primarily focused on the several fitness programs that are offered free of charge to our community. A few are explained below:

Rock Steady Boxing is an evidence-based exercise program that is specifically designed for individuals diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. This program has over 40 active participants. Learn more about Rock Steady here.

Learn more about Enhanced Fitness here.

Additional free community programs offered include fall prevention programs, cancer survivorship support, dementia friendly programming, and monthly community health screenings in partnership with the Queen Anne's County Health Department. Parks and Recreation Improvements

An area-view map of white marsh park and the location of the new restroom facilities

At a recent meeting of the Queen Anne's County Commissioners, the Department of Parks and Recreation presented several park improvement projects for approval, all aimed at enhancing the safety, accessibility, and the overall experience of local parks for both residents and visitors.

One of the approved projects, depicted above, is the construction and installation of a new restroom facility at White Marsh Park. The comfort station will be located between the Bermuda and Baseball fields and will consist of men's and women's restrooms with five stalls and one urinal. The facility will also include a water fountain and water bottle fill station. Construction is expected to be completed by September 1st, 2026, with no disruption to Spring or Summer park use or athletic program. View the plan here.

The other approved projects include the replacement of the existing playground surface at Old Love Point Park and the resurfacing of trail systems at both Church Hill Park and Sudlersville Park. These improvements will significantly enhance the safety, accessibility, and enjoyment of the County's public areas.

Queen Anne’s County Commissioners Declare January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month

Nearly 25 million people are trafficked and deprived of their rights, dignity, and freedom every year. According to UMD School of Social Work, there have been over 1,000 reports of Child Sex Trafficking since 2013. Human trafficking is among the fastest-growing criminal industries in the world which leads the State of Maryland to enact on comprehensive human trafficking laws. Queen Anne’s County recognizes the harm this brings to our communities and aims to bring awareness, hope, and recognition to such issues.

Share the Love Donation Drive

A donation supply drive for the Department of Aging and Transportation

The Queen Anne’s County Department of Aging and Transportation is hosting a countywide Incontinence Supply Drive from February 1–28 to support older adults in our community.

Incontinence supplies are essential items that are often costly and not always fully covered by insurance. By donating new, unopened items, you can help provide comfort, dignity, and peace of mind to local seniors in need.

Items Needed (new only):

  • Disposable underwear (sizes M–XXL for men and women)
  • Incontinence pads
  • Wipes
  • Underpads/bedpads

As a thank-you, donors will receive one entry into a drawing for a $100 Food Lion gift card for every pack of supplies donated. The drawing will be held in March, and the winner will be notified by phone or email.

Donations can be dropped off at the Kramer Building, the Active Aging Center, the Grasonville, Kent Island, and Sudlersville Senior Centers, or on any County Ride bus.

For questions, please call (410) 758-0848.

Let’s share the love this February and help ensure our seniors have access to the basic supplies they need.
