Queen Anne’s County Department of Parks and Recreation would like to provide an update regarding the temporary closures at Matapeake related to a dredging and beach replenishment project conducted by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

  • Matapeake Landing, including the Fishing Pier and Boat Ramp, is now open to the public.
  • Matapeake Beach and Grounds will remain closed until further notice.
  • Matapeake Dog Beach will remain closed until further notice.

We want to thank everyone that came out for the US 50/301 Ramp Management Town Hall this week. 

The US 50/301 Ramp Management Program will begin on Sunday May 18, 2025 and run on Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays (Memorial Day and Labor Day) from 11:00 AM-8:00 PM until Monday, September 8.

Budget

The Queen Anne’s County Commissioners will be releasing the draft budget for Fiscal Year 2026 on April 30. This will be an updated budget following the Budget Workshops that we held in March and April. The draft budget will be mailed to county residents and also will be available on our website in the budget section. https://www.qac.org/587/Budget-Section Following the release of the County Commissioners draft budget, we will hold 3 Public Information sessions, adjustments may be made and the final budget will be adopted in June.

Queen Anne’s County Offers Free Community Emergency Response Training

Queen Anne’s County Department of Emergency Services is pleased to offer another free session of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training. Queen Anne’s County Department of Community Services is pleased to announce a free CarFit event for older drivers, taking place on Tuesday, May 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Kent Island Senior Center, located at 891 Love Point Road, Stevensville.

CarFit is an educational program developed to help older adults ensure their personal vehicles “fit” them properly for maximum comfort and safety. At the event, drivers will work one-on-one with trained technicians and health professionals who will guide them through a 12-point checklist. Adjustments can be made to improve visibility, reduce blind spots, and ensure proper seat and mirror positioning—all critical factors for safe driving.

Each year in May, the nation celebrates Older Americans Month, and Queen Anne’s County is no exception. To honor this occasion, the Queen Anne’s County Department of Community Services Area Agency on Aging presents the 20th Annual Senior Summit. This event will take place on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Queen Anne’s County 4-H Park in Centreville from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Each year on the third Saturday in May the Kent Island Heritage Society celebrates the heritage, life, and culture of Kent Island. The celebration this year will be on Saturday, May 17, and will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Kent Island Heritage Society. The Kent Island Day tradition began in 1977 with the signing of a proclamation by Acting Governor Blair Lee, recognizing Kent Island as the first permanent English settlement within Maryland.  https://qac.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2921

Cecil County Government will host an environmental information session to raise public awareness about the large volumes of sediment pollution residing behind the Conowingo Dam—an issue that poses a significant threat to the health of the Chesapeake Bay.

The Cecil County Conowingo Dam Environmental Information Session will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cecil County Administration Building, located at 200 Chesapeake Blvd, Elkton, MD. Virtual options will be available.
