boats with single use shrinkwrap

Queen Anne’s County has achieved a remarkable success in its ongoing efforts to reduce plastic waste generated by the marine industry. The county's recent initiative to recycle single-use boat shrinkwrap has resulted in a significant increase in the amount of plastic diverted from landfills.

In the second year of the program, Queen Anne’s County Government, in partnership with Plastic Free QAC and the Marine Trades Association of Maryland (MTAM), has seen an impressive 370% increase in the amount of recycled shrinkwrap compared to last year. This year, a total of 12,000 pounds (6 tons) of plastic shrinkwrap was collected and recycled, a substantial increase from the 1.62 tons collected in 2023.

Traffic / Road Closures

elm tree in front of historic courthouse

We would like to update residents on the progress regarding the historic elm tree in front of the Historic Courthouse in Centreville. Following concerning signs of distress and preliminary assessments indicating potential Dutch Elm Disease (DED), we have decided to proceed with the tree's removal to protect public safety and preserve its legacy.

Weather permitting, we plan to remove the elm tree on Saturday, July 20th. Economy Tree Service of Queenstown has been contracted for this task and anticipates completing the removal in a single day. To facilitate this process safely, Lawyers Row will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the scheduled date. https://www.qac.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2719
