QAC Launches the Long Driveway Grant Program to Bridge the Digital Divide
Queen Anne's County is pleased to announce the establishment of the Long Driveway – Category 3 Grant Program (LD-Cat3), an initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to our unserved residents who reside at the end of long driveways. The LD-Cat3 program seeks to bridge the digital divide by funding the construction of service drops, thereby connecting these homes to the existing broadband network along the road.
In today's digital age, reliable internet connectivity is more critical than ever. Unfortunately, many residents living at the end of long, private driveways have been left without access to essential broadband services. The LD-Cat3 program is an effort to address this issue and extend the benefits of high-speed internet to every corner of Queen Anne's County.
Eligibility Criteria for LD-Cat3:
To qualify for the LD-Cat3 program, the following conditions must be met:
- County ISP Presence: A County ISP, such as Breezeline, Bay Country, Choptank Fiber, Comcast, Talkie, or ThinkBig, must have an established network running along the road to which the applicant's driveway connects.
- Service Availability: The ISP should be capable of providing internet service to the applicant's residence.
- ISP-County Partnership: The ISP must be willing to collaborate with Queen Anne's County on the construction of the service drop, facilitating the seamless integration of these homes into the existing broadband infrastructure.
