The Queen Anne’s County Backpack Childhood Hunger Program Receives a Donation from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation
The Queen Anne’s County Backpack Childhood Hunger Program has received $2,500 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed neighbors in their time of need.
In partnership with the local Queen Anne’s County schools and churches, the totally volunteer QAC Backpack Program provides weekend meals for children who are at risk of hunger on weekends and holidays when school is not in session. During the summer, the Program supports children in the QAC Public School Migrant Program and the School Summer Enrichment Programs at 4 Title I schools.
“The Queen Anne’s County Backpack Program and the families we serve are extremely grateful for this generous grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation,” said Kathy Sells and Vincent Radosta, Backpack Program Co-Chairs.
“The Backpack Program relies on the generosity of caring individuals, churches, local organizations and the Queen Anne’s County Department of Children and Families, all dedicated to addressing childhood hunger in our local communities. During the 2022/23 school year, the QAC Backpack Program provided 2,200+ weekend meals to 580 children in our local schools. The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation grant will help the QAC Program provide weekend meals for about 275 children attending the QAC Public School summer sessions and provide over 1,000 bags of food and 2,000 snacks during the summer. We are also grateful for the 60+ volunteers who assist the Program year-round in providing the needed weekend food to children in 13 QAC Schools.”
