Chesapeake Heritage Visitors Center and Ferry Point Park Closed May 1st for Improvements
The Queen Anne’s County Chesapeake Heritage and Visitors Center and Ferry Point Park will be closed to the public, starting May 1, 2023, for site improvements. The project is expected to be completed within 7 months. There will be no disruption of access to the Piney Narrows Marina, and adjacent Department of Natural Resources boat ramp during this time.
This project kicks off the second phase of The Chesapeake Heritage and Visitors Center Site Improvement Project. The first phase of the project included replacing the existing bulkhead, replacing two boat ramps, installing a new boat pier and platform. A boat lift was installed north of the boat ramps for the Department of Natural Resource Police. This phase was completed in the spring of 2022.
The second phase of improvements consists of a new parking facility and various site amenities. The improvements to the area feature a boardwalk through an area that reflects the appearance of walking through a newly constructed wetland. The parking area will feature lighting along new pathways throughout the site. There will be a new large open grass area landscaped with native trees and plants to provide an outside venue for community events. The boat pier, which was completed in phase one of the project will allow visitors to access by boat, which leads to the Chesapeake Heritage and Visitor Center and Ferry Point Park. These improvements will showcase the environmental aspects, boating, parks, and the beauty of Queen Anne’s County.
We appreciate your patience while we work on the second phase of improvements to the area. While Ferry Point Park is closed you can visit qac.org to explore our other parks and trails. Our Visitors Center will be temporarily relocating to the Queenstown Premium Outlets. We will announce additional details about this temporary location when it is open to the public.
