Our
Mission
The mission of the Department of Aging is to provide services to its
constituents in order to enable them to lead full, productive lives with
dignity and purpose. Assisting persons with finding the support to maintain
individual independence and choice when at all possible will be of primary
importance. A focus on opportunity for service to the community will be
maintained.
The Queen
Anne’s County Department of Aging is an E.O.E. and does not discriminate
on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin or disability
in the admission of , access to, or treatment in its programs or
activities.
The Queen Anne’s County Department of Aging, designated as the Area
Agency on Aging, functions as a branch of the county government to administer
programs and services for the county. All seniors are encouraged to avail themselves of the services
provided.
Business
hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Senior
Center Meals
Meals meeting one-third of the recommended dietary allowance are
provided in congregate settings where other programs and services are
available for seniors age 60 and over. Spouses of any age are also welcome.
Menus are provided a month in advance and a nutrient analysis is available.
Reservations a week in advance are encouraged. There is no charge for the
congregate meals.
However, the full cost is
posted and anonymous, voluntary contributions are solicited. Guests under age
60 must pay the full cost of the meal. Shelf stable meals are distributed for
use during weather emergencies.

Home
Delivered Meals
Meals meeting one-third of the recommended dietary allowance are
provided to seniors age 60 and over who are homebound and cannot prepare meals
for themselves. Drivers deliver two meals, three times a week throughout the
county. Frozen meals are also available for evening and weekend consumption.
There is no charge for the home delivered meals. However, the full cost is
disclosed to participants and voluntary contributions are solicited. Shelf
stable meals are distributed for use during weather emergencies.

IN-HOME SERVICES
Assistance to persons living alone in their own homes is provided
through the In Home Services Program. The worker may also do shopping, errands
and light household chores for the home-bound person as well as provide
socialization. Call the Department of Aging for more information at
410-758-0848 or 410-778-9399.
MEDICAID
WAIVER FOR OLDER ADULTS
The goal of the Medicaid Waiver is to
enable older adults to remain in a community setting even though a medical
condition or disability would warrant placement in a long-term care facility.
The Waiver allows services that
are typically covered by Medicaid only in a long term care facility to be
provided to eligible persons in their own homes or in assisted living
facilities. Under a Medicaid Waiver, the federal government “waives”
certain requirements it imposes on states, such as the requirement that the
services be provided in a nursing facility. For eligible clients, the State
will pay for covered services to enable them to stay in the community.
ASSISTED
LIVING PROGRAM
The Assisted Living Program is a type of living arrangement for adults
that combines housing with support services. The Assisted Living Program is
designed for adults 18+ who need regular help with daily activities, but who
do not need nursing home care. The program enables many persons with chronic
health problems to continue living in the community. Call 410-758-0848 or
410-778-9399 for more information.
SENIOR
INFORMATION
& ASSISTANCE
Information on services to the elderly such as housing, transportation,
health care, financial benefits, and much more is available at the Department
of Aging. Two programs directly under Senior I &A are: Senior Health
Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) which
offers comprehensive health insurance counseling to older Marylanders
and their caregivers, as well as, Curb Abuse in Medicare & Medicaid (CAMM)
which increases senior awareness of health care fraud, waste and abuse.
Seniors will be screened to determine eligibility and directed to available
programs to meet their particular needs. The office serves as a single point
of access for all programs and services to the elderly. For more information
call 410-758-0848 or 410-778-9399.
SENIOR
CARE
Senior Care is a network of services designed to assist persons to
remain independent in their own homes. Screening is provided by the
Information & Assistance program to enable persons over age 65 to
coordinate in-home care and help provide services to those persons in danger
of nursing home placement. Working with both the Departments of Health and
Social Services, a complete package of services is available.
TELEPHONE
SUPPORT
This free service is for those elderly
persons living alone and in need of daily contact to check on their
well-being. The Telephone Reassurance Program volunteer calls the elderly
participant; if there is no answer, one of the participant’s responders is
contacted to make certain they are all right.
Also available is
Lifeline. Through a special telephone attachment,
emergency situations are responded to through the
911 system. A modest monthly
fee is required for this service. Call 410-758-0848 or 410-778-9399 to receive
more information on these programs.
LONG-TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN
The Ombudsman is responsible for receiving, investigating and
attempting to resolve complaints received from residents of long term care
facilities or individuals acting on their behalf. The Ombudsman makes on site
visits on a regular basis to observe conditions in a facility.
