What do I do if I disagree with my property assessment?
Property values are assessed by the state, not the county. Call the State Assessment Office, Centreville, at 410-819-4160, or visit the website for the State Department of Assessments and Taxation (http://www.dat.state.md.us)
What is the property tax rate?
Property tax rates for state, county, and incorporated towns within the county are set July 1 each year. Click here for a table of current rates.
What property tax district is my property in?
Your property tax identification number is a 10-digit number. The first two digits, '18', indicate Queen Anne's County, the third and fourth digits provide the tax district, the last six digits are your account number.
Is my tax bill sent to my mortgage company?
No, all tax bills are sent to the homeowners. We do send an electronic file to the mortgage companies and they can pick their customers off of it, but we strongly suggest that you send a copy as well.
What period does the tax bill cover and when is it due?
The billing cycle for Queen Anne’s County is based on a fiscal year running from July 1 to June 30th. Due dates are as follows:
Semi annual-for principle residences become due July 1st and December 1st and are charged interest after September 30th and December 31st.
Annual-for a non principle residence becomes due July 1st and is charged interest after September 30th.
What is a supplemental bill and what does it cover?
A supplemental bill is a bill for new construction substantially complete by December 30th. This bill covers from January to June on the new construction and is mailed out in January. The bill becomes due on January 1st and is charged interest after March 31st.
