Animal Services provides patrols of the entire county, during which Animal Services Officers collect stray, unleashed and licensed animals roaming at large. The officers respond to calls for assistance and investigate complaints related to any animal, both wild and domestic.

The officers have received specialized training in the care, treatment and handling of both wild and domestic animals. An Animal Services Officer is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The Animal Services Center staff spends hundreds of hours each year trying to place unwanted and stray domestic animals.

The staff is responsible for making all calls to potential adopters, rescue organizations, and foster homes for animals placed into the adoption program. The staff is also responsible for all incoming telephone calls, complaints, filings, statistical analysis and the overall operation of the center.

The Animal Services Center works very closely with local humane societies, local veterinarians, the Environmental Health Department, the State Animal Health Laboratory and state and local law enforcement agencies.

The staff at the Animal Services Center is involved in presenting numerous educational programs to schools and community groups.
