Economic Development Commission
The Economic Development Commission was established by Resolution in May 1983 and again by Resolution 94-04 of February 8, 1994. The purpose of the Commission is to develop a vibrant economy with the necessary human and business resources to provide the highest quality of life for all residents, while preserving the County’s distinctive cultural and environmental heritage. They investigate and assemble information pertaining to economic resources, industrial sites and opportunities and disseminate this information by publication, advertising or other means. They periodically survey the over-all condition of the County from the standpoint of determining whether the County has a community climate and furnishes such services and facilities as are conducive to industrial and economic expansion and makes recommendations to Planning and Zoning regarding the development of commercial projects. The Economic Development Board of Directors oversees a small fund that was established through the solicitation of private funds in the mid-1980’s. Over the years these funds have been used for a variety of economic development initiatives. On July 21, 2006, the BOD directed that these privately raised funds be placed under the 501c(3) control of the Foundation for Community Partnerships. The Foundations operates as an umbrella 501c(3) organization for the BOD. The Economic Development Commission meets the fourth Wednesday of every month. Meetings are held at the Chesapeake Exploration Center, 8:30 am. For more information call the Economic Development, Agriculture and Tourism office at (410)758-4418.
