Agriculture

Queen Anne's County encompasses approximately 238,000 acres and is located at the eastern end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The majority of the County’s land mass, approximately 209,000 acres (88%) is in Agriculture.

A farm is defined as a place that sells or would normally sell $1,000 work of agricultural products. According to Maryland Agricultural Statistics in 2006, Queen Anne's County ranked first in the production of corn, soybeans and wheat. Many of the farms in Queen Anne’s County have been diversifying into other industries such as poultry, vineyards and other niche markets.

Queen Anne’s County has a renewed commitment to land preservation and agricultural sustainability through a newly established Department of Economic Development and Agriculture. Queen Anne’s County actively supports all agricultural preservation efforts on a regional basis recognizing the agricultural support industry and land basis extends beyond county boundaries.

Taken as a whole, Queen Anne’s County has preserved a total of 70,000 acres through various preservation programs which will enable agriculture to remain the largest industry in the County.
