STEVENSVILLE – The Queen Anne’s County Commissioners, Oct. 10, voted unanimously to accept a $300,000 grant for Kent Island’s Blue Heron Nature Preserve.
The funding comes from the state’s Department of Natural Resources Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund and the purpose is to create a nature preserve on the parkland just south of Blue Heron Golf Course and just north of Kent Island Estates.
“This is a fabulous grant,” said Commission President Stephen Wilson to Chief Environmental Resource Planner Nancy Scozzari, and the department’s Director Chip Price.
“We are getting partnership and cooperation with DNR along with the funding to create a nature preserve in the 300 plus acres just south of the golf course,” said Scozzari. “The objectives here are for water quality improvements and habitat protection.”
Commissioner Mark Anderson said, “This will go a long way in completing this project to provide open space on the Route 8 corridor on Kent Island."
